From the lofty direct relatives of the king, to the lowliest dregs clinging to meaningless titles in outer Rukongai, the legacy of the feudal system still lingers in Soul Society. This thread is to serve as an overview to the nobility in the rp as well as a listing of who’s who among the upper-echelons of Seireitei. First of all, there are two different kinds of people in Soul Society; those who live in Seireitei and those who don’t. If you are a shinigami, you are already quasi-nobility simply by virtue of being a citizen of Seireitei. While your character might be little more than a street-rat snatched out of Rukongai and thrown into the Academy, there is a certain amount of status that living in the court gives you. With that in mind, let’s get into the details.

General Edit

What is a noble? Edit

A noble is, in the most basic sense, someone who owns land. Where the land is located, how much of it there is, and how much the land is worth varies from family to family. What does matter is the influence they have on the land they own.

Who are the nobles? Edit

The biggest noble of all is the king. As the monarch, the king has dominion over all of Soul Society. Obviously, he can’t run the entire world, so has entrusted families with titles to plots of land. Usually, these are people who have done a great service to Soul Society in some fashion to prove their trustworthiness. Note that the king himself does not award titles anymore. That is now one of the functions of the Central 46, although they don’t need to exercise it much.

So how does one become a noble? Edit

There are several ways it can happen. You can be given the title as mentioned right above. This pretty much doesn’t happen at all anymore in modern times.

You can also marry into a title. If a spouse has a title, that title is shared once they become married. Noble houses often marry with each other to strengthen the power of their united house. Sometimes dashing upstarts manage to slip in there too.

After that, you can inherit a title. When a head of house dies, his land is divided between his children. Some houses prefer to simply appoint a new head of house and keep the family united rather than fracturing it. Traditions vary from house to house. Either way, when a title-holder passes away, that title has to go somewhere. Getting into a succession crisis like this is probably the number one cause of noble fatalities. Things can get downright nasty when all that power is on the line. This is especially true the higher up the ladder you go.

What kind of nobles are there? Edit

I’ve classified the nobles into three categories: the Four Noble Houses, the High Nobility and the Low Nobility.

What is the Low Nobility? Edit

The Low Nobility owns land in Rukongai. Rukongai sucks and the further out you go, the more it sucks. Thusly, the further out your land is, the lower your rank tends to be. Once you get past about District 20, the difference between the nobility and your average citizen is purely cosmetic. Who cares if your dad owns a slum? A slum is still a slum. The Low Nobility tends to either be really well grounded compared to the rest of the snobbish court, or really ambitious. Neither trait earns them much respect among the upper echelons. Folks in this class are rarely recognized except in the immediate area where they live. You are strictly local government. All the federal guys live in Seireitei. The blood in these families is pretty thin. If there were a bunch of strong prodigies in the family, why are they still wasting their time in the rough neighborhoods? Many talented individuals in Rukongai are eagerly scouted by local nobles hoping to ride a prodigy’s coattails into high society, but most are too savvy to be used in such an obvious ploy. Many families in the Low Nobility are vassals of High Nobles. This is a beneficial arrangement for both parties as the Low Nobles gain the resources and influence of the High Nobility, while still being able to focus on their immediate affairs. Meanwhile, the High Nobility gains a lot of influence by proxy and can extract incomes from profitable areas.

How do I determine my rank as a Low Noble compared to other Low Nobles? Edit

Well that’s the trick, isn’t it? A vassal house of a great family would obviously enjoy a lot of prestige, but if he was in a terrible district that would serve to diminish it. An independent family in a nice district might have less influence than a vassal house of a lower one if that family were of a high ranking. Basically, there isn’t a set and dry way to doing it. Welcome to the nobility. Names are everything and no one can agree on anything.

What is the High Nobility? Edit

The High Nobility control land in Seireitei. Lower houses among the High Nobility have land in Rukongai in addition to their stately manors in the city, but the more refined houses prefer to leave their plots outside the bloodstone walls to their vassal houses. High Nobles are fairly famous and anyone with breeding would at least know the names of the prominent members of the twelve families of the High Nobility. Members of this class are extremely rich, extremely powerful and extremely dangerous to cross. The blood runs thick in these families and many famous shinigami come from these clans.

How do I determine my rank as a High Noble?Edit

It’s complicated again. Families with direct holdings in Rukongai are lower, while families with a lot of vassals are higher. Families who are vassals of one of the Four Noble Houses might enjoy a lot of prestige, but be viewed by other independent families as lapdogs for bigger houses.
Lower Noble houses can get away with a lot more ambiguity, but when tons of riches and power are on the line as they are for the High Nobility, things get a lot stickier.

What are the Four Noble Houses? Edit

The four houses are the houses among the High Nobility that are closest in the line of succession to the king. While they Four Noble Houses are technically no different than the High Nobility, they enjoy far more prestige than the mere rabble pretending to be important below them. Traditionally, the Four Nobles were in charge of overseeing land in a particular cardinal direction, with the Ashanti to the south, the Kikuchis to the east, the LaSalles (and now the Fausts) to the west and the Yoshishige having their personal holdings in the north. After millennia of infighting and complicated affairs of inheritance, the Yoshishige have opted to give away their land to independent houses to focus on their royal duties, while the other three houses have had their holdings change considerably. Even so, the families still tend to have their bases of power in those directions, and their vassals tend to be located in these areas too.

How about ancestral titles like the stewardship of the Onmitsu Kidou? Can my house have one? Edit

As the years have passed, official titles in the armed forces such as these have been gradually phased out. The Onmitsu Kidou title itself was held by House LaSalle which has since fallen, so the fate of this title is in limbo. If you think about it, having a title like that is pretty dumb. A given house can expect to have one bankai capable individual every few generations and if that gap in generations happens to be big, then the whole military branch suffers. With that in mind, don’t expect your house to have some special title as odds are there was some dark period in your house that screwed it all up.

What kind of powers do the nobles enjoy on their land? Edit

The Central 46 is the government in lieu of the king, so their law is absolute and the nobles must obey their mandates first and foremost. Beyond that, nobles can enforce the law on their lands and collect taxes. Many families make extra rules about living and working on their land and some can be quite strict. So within certain boundaries set forth by the government, nobles have a lot of free will to govern their own land how they want. The degree to which this is exercised really depends on the house itself. Trying to enforce strict standards on outer Rukongai citizens is usually a recipe for disaster, however.

I thought the Central 46 was the government. Why would they let nobles keep doing their feudal system thing? Edit

Well point 1, Soul Society is kind of old fashioned. There are a lot of super old people running the place and they still have the sensibilities of old times. Beyond that, when you have a bunch of rich, powerful nobles, there is a question of how one would take that power away. If the Central 46 were to try to completely dissolve the system, there might be an outright civil war. Considering they just had to deal with one 500 years ago, I doubt they are going to want to do that.

Why wouldn’t people just live on non-noble controlled land? Edit

I wouldn’t want some rich fruit telling me what to do. That’s a good question! The main reason is that Rukongai sucks. The way Soul Society is set up, there is a big central city and as you get further out, the power of the central government grows weaker and weaker. Nobles on the other hand, have their power based on their land. This creates little islands of influence where there is money and peace. It’s true that some people opt to live free on their own, but not everyone is strong enough to do that. Beyond the stability and money issue there is also one of protection. I would think there are some normal people police run by the Central 46 to try to keep things in order (especially in the higher districts) but the moment some jerk with reiatsu comes along, all those guys are useless. How would you deal with a group of thugs who are bulletproof, stab-proof and capable of launching demon fire by uttering a few words? The best chance would be by living on noble lands. As the blood is thicker among the elite, they are likely to have their own demon fire spouting good guys who won’t take kindly to someone trying to make trouble on their turf. That might make you ask what the real difference between a reiatsu talented gang and a noble family really is out in Rukongai. The answer is… not much at all really.

This all seems kind of…non-canon. Edit

Well, Bleach is about fighting really so it really isn’t going to go into too much depth about politics. This is probably a good thing. Would you really want an episode about a filibuster in the Central 46? As GM, I’m kind of obligated to flesh out the system, so this is the most reasonable way I thought I could do it. We’re in an alternate universe anyway, so we’re allowed to be a little different. If canon throws a big monkey wrench into things, I’ll have to modify it. It’s pretty nerdy to have to make this whole system in the first place. If you think this is bad, don’t even get me started on the economics of Soul Society.

Okay, so how do I get in on this? Edit

Submit your house to me and I’ll see if it meets up with my criteria. Here is what I want to see in the submission: House name of (put your best district here, high nobles would put something like north, south, east, west Seireitei in here) Rper: You Head of House: (Character or NPC name) Crest: Whatever fruity thing you think of Members: Your family members Vassals: If you have lower houses whether by marriage or whatever, list them here Rivals: If you have houses that hate you, list them here. After that give me a brief little history about your family. This can be really dry and boring if you want it to be. Most nobles are really dry and boring, but the history is important to them at least. Even some hicks from Rukongai have pride.

Any tips on making a family? Edit

Point one: if you intend to make a family, you had better be intent on sticking with it. Every single rper in the nobility has to work their histories around yours and the more important that you make your house, the more they have to work around it. If you are a dick and make a family only to have cold feet and abandon it, then you screw every rper on this list. I will not be happy. They will not be happy. And we will make sure you are not happy. Think before you do this. Point two: high noble families are PCs only. If you want to be a high falooting high noble, it had better be a house your PC is in. Point three: your family is not all powerful nor are they the most important. Limit the amount of strong NPCs in your family and limit the amount of super titles. I had an rper who demanded that members of her house be among the highest ranking people in the Kidoushuu, Onmitsu Kidou as well as the Central 46. That is a dick move. Don’t do that. Point four: make it mean something. If you are going to go to all this trouble to make all this stuff, then you ought to use it. Point five: make sure you know the other families and work with them. The higher rank you are, the more responsibility you have in knowing who’s who in Seireitei. If you don’t know who Issei Kikuchi is as of reading this, you’d better figure it out. If you don’t, you are going to be called an uncultured swine next time you collab with a noble who does. Point six: talk to the other folks on this list and figure out your history as it relates to them. Every family has a base of power somewhere so if your family has land in East Rukongai district 6, then you might want to talk to me to work out a connection with a Kikuuchi vassal. You might want to even be a vassal. Who knows? Families are often connected in the weirdest ways.

The Four Noble Houses Edit

House Faust of the West Edit

House Faust was founded millennia ago by Leviticus Faust I, ironically enough upon his deathbed, when the Central 46 granted him a plot of land in one of the outer districts in return for some forgotten service to Seireitei. His son, Leviticus II was the first Faust to carry a title and the first inheritor of the sword, Redeemer, which has been the traditional blade of all who have led the Faust clan.

Since its foundation, House Faust has risen steadily through the ranks of the nobility with the majority of their prestige coming from their fine warriors joining the Gotei 13 as well as their seeming immunity to the corruption and infighting that plagues most other noble houses, especially lower ones. Their seemingly unbreakable commitment to the ideals of the Gotei as well as each other has sparked many legends and rumors regarding the tight knit clan. Foremost among these is the idea that the Fausts are all blood related in the living world as well as the dead; something unheard of in Soul Society where the odds of finding one’s blood relatives are virtually impossible, and even if they were found, most souls find their memories long gone.

A more likely scenario and the one the Fausts stick to when asked about their family ties is their policy of turning over all power and lands upon the ascension of an heir. The patriarchs themselves are often said to have journeyed to the far reaches of Soul Society so that there may never be strife between father and son. Such policies, while effective for internal squabbles, have not left the Fausts without their enemies.

The Fausts are well known for being among the most morally inflexible among the nobility, a trait which often makes them loved by the people, but tends to polarize the other nobles. Their so-called purity has sparked many a feud, but so far, such feuds have only made them stronger.

In recent millennia, House Faust has risen to become one of the Four Noble Houses. During the Masaru era, the Fausts were vassals of House LaSalle, but split rather famously in the events surrounding the Mask War. The issue that split them, many speculate, was that the Fausts learned of the connection between House LaSalle and the SQN.

Since that time, House Faust and House LaSalle have been bitter rivals, culminating when Gabriel Faust and Leon Simeon defeated the LaSalle twins, Augustus and Maria, during the Battle of Tokyo. The disgraced twins were committed to an asylum and the LaSalles were forced to give up many of their ancestral titles to House Faust as a punitive measure for their involvement in the SQN.

Now, as the newest house among the Four Noble Houses, the “Archangels of Seireitei,” Uriel, Raphael, Michelle and Gabriel stand as one of the most influential families in Soul Society.
The eldest Faust, Uriel is engaged to be married to Manami of House Kikuchi hoping to consolidate House Faust as more than mere upstarts to their newly acquired titles.

House Ashanti of the South Edit

House Ashanti dates back as far as written history and beyond. Despite this fact, records of their activities are remarkably sparse, especially for one of the Four. The names of their ancestors seem to be mentioned in passing in various events and then never referred to again. Their true impact on Seireitei can only be seen when looked at as a whole, as one eventually realizes that a member of House Ashanti is mentioned in nearly every major event, even if it is a small role. Their presence seems to be that of a looming observer, watching history while remaining separate from it.

Their prominence can be attributed largely to the caliber of their warriors who are considered without peer in Seireitei. Their discipline and devotion to the art of fighting borders on a religious passion, and it is rumored that many of their sons are left in Hueco Mundo during their early years to “toughen them up.”

Their patience for Seireitei politics is notoriously thin and this trait indirectly led to the formation of the Keigun. Millenia ago, during a meeting of the court, the Ashanti matriarch stood said, “Unacceptable,” and walked out along with her entourage. This led to a drive to root out corruption in Seireitei and thus, the Keigun was formed.

House Ashanti has even deigned to have some of their sons serve in the ranks of the Keigun, but always on their own terms. There has not been a member of the house in the Keigun since the Mask War, as in the build up to the conflict, Lady Kasima took a cue from her ancestor and famously uttered, “Unacceptable” in the meeting deciding to promote Arihito. The next day, all Ashanti withdrew from the Keigun, and the House has been silent ever since.
What role they have yet to play is unknown, but they are always watching.

The Royal Family, House Yoshishige Edit

The ruling family of Soul Society. House Yoshishige has always been in the public eye. Being at the top of society, they need only to nudge, hint or suggest and it is so. Because of the repercussions every word or action of theirs has, they tend to be very distant and disconnected from the rest of the world, measuring every appearance carefully.

A famous incident revolved around Lady Suzu commenting negatively on the fashion decision of a member of a lower house. This led to the other nobles banding against the lower house in an effort to please House Yoshishige which culminated in a riot that killed every member of the house. Lady Suzu, appalled, expressed her dissatisfaction with the way a simple fashion faux-pas resulted in the death of a family, and several more nobles took it upon themselves to punish those “responsible.” Needless to say, those in House Yoshishige are rather timid when it comes to making public appearances anymore, lest their inferiors try to gain their favor.

While this would seem to make them aloof, the opposite seems to be the case. Despite their dissatisfaction with the Gotei 13, the people seem to empathize with the royals well. Their vulnerability makes them accessible enough to relate to, while their rank makes them lofty enough to admire.

Of the family, no one is more of a recluse than the king himself, who has not been seen since before Masaru’s time. With the location of the Ou Ken lost when Masaru died, there has been an ill-feeling going around the family, and their public appearances seem muted at best. It seems that forces are conspiring to make a grab at the throne, and they can do nothing about without causing a witch hunt. Their favorite guardian Masaru is gone and it appears their era is about to come to an end.
Further proving this is the nearly endless train of suitors for the daughters of house Yoshishige. They have no son, so every house is eager to get a shot at the throne, a fact that the Yoshishige sisters are well aware of, and it disgusts them. To date, they have not even responded to a single courting request. This doesn’t stop anyone from trying.

House Kikuchi of the East Edit

The history of House Kikuchi is the sort found in most soap operas. With the amount of marriages, divorces, adoptions, and inner family squabbles through the years, House Kikuchi has become media darlings, for better or for worse.

Their members are well known for their beauty and their rather carefree temperament and all of their sons and daughters are married, although for how long this time is anyone’s guess. Because of their numerous liaisons, House Kikuchi has assembled quite the group of vassals entangled by marriages. All of the vassals are in a constant struggle for supremacy for the house which makes them at each others throats nearly all the time. A popular higher district pastime is to place bets on who will fight who whenever there is a family gathering.

The chaos is managed by the ancient Lord Issei, who has overseen the family since its formation and whose age is measured in eons. Lord Issei is a jovial old man who takes the constant drama in his family in stride and can be constantly seen at parties and bars with members of the Central 46 and other high nobility, with whom he enjoys immense popularity.

Despite their seemingly careless lifestyle, House Kikuchi is seen by more perceptive historians as highly calculating. Their numerous marriages ensure their constant well-being as the struggles of their vassal houses to earn their favor always work to the advantage of House Kikuchi, even if the vassals themselves fall to ruin, which they often do. A trail of broken and disgraced houses accompany the history of House Kikuchi, many of which have come to resent their former masters.

Lord Issei himself is said to have a sharp mind behind his constant antics and his moderating influence is said to keep the balance in Seireitei. The decisions made by the Central 46 leading up to the Mask War coincided directly with Lord Issei falling gravely ill. This, some historians say, is no coincidence.
Most of the relatives of Lord Issei have never been particularly legendary for their combat prowess, as they view the shinigami penchant for battle to be a spectator sport at best and a barbaric display at worst, but Lord Issei himself was a shinigami in the 1st of some renown although his service was quite brief.

High Nobility Edit

House LaSalle of West Seireitei Edit

Formerly one of the Four Noble Houses, the LaSalles enjoy one of the longest and most prestigious histories in Soul Society gaining them both friends and enemies in large amounts.

The family has been around as long as history can record, and ancient records claim that Sebastian I was among the people who first helped lay down the foundation for the government that evolved into the Central 46. Other notables in the family include Peter the Mason, who helped design many of the older buildings in Seireitei and Nicholas III who helped to codify the districts into numbers, a system that has made setting up infrastructure in Rukongai easier to this day.

As the elitist of the elite, House LaSalle seems to have their hands in every financial, political and social pot in the upper houses. They are by far the richest of the nobility even after their fall and have a controlling share in a vast amount of Rukongai corporations. While being so political tends to make their popularity vary vastly depending on the support given to the current rulers, it is always assumed that a LaSalle has a hand in everything that is going on in the Central 46.

In the wake of the Battle of Tokyo, it was revealed that the previous heads of house, Augustus and Maria LaSalle were actually traitors to the crown. Their rebellion was crushed and much of their titles were stripped. Augustus and Maria LaSalle are being held in a Keigun compound for the mentally ill and Septimus III has taken their place as head of house.
Septimus LaSalle is none too pleased at having to inherit the troubles of his twin siblings and seeks to restore the house to its former glory, despite the fact that he is nowhere near the peer in spiritual pressure as his twin siblings. His tends to use his position as a member of the Central 46 and his vassal House Kazama as tools toward these ends.

House Takimoto of East Seireitei Edit

House Takimoto first rose to power roughly a millennia ago during the Age of Turmoil. During the siege on Hueco Mundo, Shinsuke Takimoto commanded a large battalion with the sole purpose of guarding the Gotei’s retreat. They stood their ground against countless waves of hollow beasts attempting to destroy the Senkaimon Gate. Despite being outnumbered, Shinsuke kept the gate open and prevented the forces of Hueco Mundo from getting near enough to attack it.

Upon his return to the Soul Society, he was proclaimed a hero and his renown quickly spread. It was not long before the members of the Central 46 caught wind of his incredible deed. Taking advantage of his instant fame and brief celebrity, they agreed to grant him a piece of land within Seireitei. Soon after, Shinsuke fell in love with Noroka, a member of a lower noble family, and the House Takimoto was formed.

After the fallout of the Mask War, the new patriarch Yamilo Takimoto was elected to the Central 46 and served in this post throughout the follow five hundred years of peace. During this time, the House Takimoto went through a grand era of fame and prosperity as they provided many great soldiers for the Gotei forces. Just as the peace in the Soul Society could not last forever, the same followed suit with the noble family.

When the recent Sine Qua Non liberation occurred, Yamilo was revealed to be an SQN sympathizer and thusly was accused of “misplacing” the access codes necessary for their escape. He did not refute the claim and instantly lost favor with the Central 46. Not wishing to cause further disgrace to his family’s name, Yamilo stepped down as patriarch of the House Takimoto and has not been seen since.

In lieu of his father’s absence, Akio assumed the role of the head of his family and attempted to regain the House Takimoto’s honor. His primary focuses became his vassals and the citizens of the more prominent districts of Rukongai. Through spending time and donating some surplus necessities, Akio was able to reclaim some favor with them and regained many people’s confidence.
Although the restoration to their family’s name is still not complete, the healing process has begun.

Low Nobility Edit

House Furousha Edit

House Furousha was created approximately 500 years after the great Civil War during the Golden Age of Gabriel Faust’s reign in Seireitei. Nobility was gifted to Ritoru for his many achievements within the Gotei 13, by Uriel Faust no less, and was subsequently given lands in Western Rukongai’s 23rd District where drug trafficking gangs had developed a stronghold for their business. The evil there didn’t last long however as Ritoru quickly purged his lands of all criminals, bringing a peace to the 23rd and surrounding districts that had not been seen there in centuries.

House Furousha remains a loyal vassal to House Faust and Ritoru can often be found in the White City, taking full advantage of his new title.

House Konoe Edit

Ever since its founding several millennia ago, House Konoe has had the responsibility of caring for the land in the upper middle districts of East Rukongai. Since the eastern lands are rolling hills and valleys, Konoe has focused upon the production of food and textile materials from their farms. They enjoyed their standing in the upper tier of the lesser nobility until their only daughter, the beauty Mizuko, was married to a son of House Kikuchi. Along with this marriage, Konoe attained vassalage with one of the four high noble houses and enjoyed the financial benefits that came therewith.

The patriarch of House Konoe, Shoutarou, grew to enjoy the new opportunities afforded from his daughter’s marriage, namely the parties and sake. It was during one fateful party when he drunkenly crossed paths with the Patriarch of another Kikuchi vassal, Miragawa Daiki. Afterward, it was said that Shoutarou had tried to molest a daughter of the Kikuchi while in a drunken state. Knowing that there was nothing else he could do, Shoutarou committed ritual suicide in order to protect his House’s interests.

Upon his father’s death, Takahiro assumed the mantle of House Konoe and began to meddle in the financial affairs of the house. This further aggravated House Kikuchi, who now considered their links to Konoe to be an undesirable weight. Mizuko’s marriage was dissolved in divorce, and she retreated to the small Konoe estate in the 8th district of East Rukongai. The loss of the House Kikuchi ties greatly reduced the number of willing trade partners, and Takahiro’s lack of financial sense drove the house into a downward spiral toward bankruptcy.

The fortunes of House Konoe were very grim leading up to and through the initial stages of the Mask War. Ryuu, the only son of Takahiro, was busy in the Gotei, rooting out the Vizards who had hidden themselves for so long within the walls of Seireitei. Takahiro was facing the prospect of having to sell the lands that had been in his family for generations. And then the unexpected occurred. A rash of deaths near their rival’s estate caught Takahiro’s eye. The Miragawa patriarch had been directly responsible for his father’s fall from favor and subsequent death, and now his opportunity for vengeance was apparent.

After the Central 46 was cleansed of Vizard sympathizers, Takahiro journeyed to Seireitei to testify of what he had seen and observed regarding the two sons of Miragawa. Concerned that they had potential links to traitors, Kikuchi cut off their ties with Miragawa. The reward for the capture and/or execution of the Miragawa sons was noted to be the entirety of the House’s funds and land holdings. For this reason, Ryuu took a temporary leave from his duties in the 12th division and began to hunt down the two men who had lost control of their internal hollows.

Using techniques learned in his years serving under Faust and Ilpotar, Ryuu managed to ensnare and kill both brothers within a week’s time. When he returned to the Central 46 chambers and presented proof of their masks and deaths, Ryuu was granted control of House Miragawa. Takahiro immediately stepped down as Patriarch and traveled to the small estate where his sister Mizuko was living. Upon his ascension to head of House Konoe, Ryuu moved to adopt the children of Miragawa while their elders were placed in care of the additional lands that now bore the crest of Konoe.

Having experienced firsthand the benefits of military service, Ryuu ordered that all Konoe children from there on would attend the Academy and serve in either the Gotei or the Onmitsu Kidou. This was a big change from previous policy, since only the youngest son was made to serve in the military before this decree. He had two reasons for this, one being that the children would acquire an additional income, and the other being the military contacts that would increase House Konoe’s visibility among the nobility.

Currently, there are three Konoe children and four former Miragawa children in the ranks of the Gotei and Onmitsu Kidou. Konoe Yuudai is following in his father’s footsteps by gaining admittance to the 12th division. His younger brother, Tatsuya, entered the 3rd division, and their young sister Momoko has entered the 4th division, for lack of anything else to do. All of the adopted Miragawa children chose to serve in the Onmitsu Kidou.

The recent purchase of more land in the 1st district of East Rukongai by House Konoe has spurred rumors that the once again up and coming house might seek vassalage with a higher noble house in order to gain access to Seireitei.

The House Soramaru was created during the time of peace following the Age of Turmoil, but its origins can be traced to well before that. During the final stages of the war against Emptybones, while Seireitei was in chaos, panic and rioting were breaking out all over Rukongai. The Soramaru family, located in the 63rd district, quickly went into action, forming an impromptu militia comprised of anyone who showed remedial combat skill and abnormally-high reiatsu. The militia kept order in Rukongai between the 59th and 65th districts, resulting in there not being a single casualty resulting from civil disobedience.

After the war's end, the Soramaru family was not immediately recognized for their efforts. The family had origins within one of the poorer districts of Rukongai, and some of the members of the family were seen as dubious characters at best and ruffians at least. Over the next few centuries, however, the Soramaru clan worked to shed its former image, with all seven children of that generation attending and graduating from the Shinigami Academy. This, in addition to the family's impeccable record of service during this time, eventually earned them a place in the Lower Houses.

The House Soramaru, as it was in the beginning, is tasked with monitoring and policing South Rukongai. At the same time, however, the younger members of the family are often allowed to mingle amongst the "lesser" families in order to give the House sets of eyes and ears within the masses of Rukongai. The patriarch, Jinshiro Soramaru, grants them a significant level of respect and freedom.

The motto he has created for the family is: "Pride with Everything". While they serve Sereitei, they also strive to meet the needs of the common Rukongai citizen. Being new to nobility, the House is very flexible with its protocol. So long as a family member's actions do not bring dishonor upon the House Soramaru, and so long as they are available when their family is in need, they may do as they wish.

Most recently, the House Soramaru has begun a merger with the House Kaifu, a declining House of Low Nobility that operates between the 1st through 10th Districts of North Rukongai. Also, Juusuke Soramaru, the Heir Apparent to the Soramaru estate, has been named Commander of the Guard, giving him responsibility over the Soramaru clan’s policing force. In addition, the family also recently acquired the House Uoshintan as new vassals.
